About us

ASCEM Special Technologies (ASCEM) is the research and knowledge institute of the BTE Group. Its work centres around all aspects of concrete; its composition and application, the properties of the various materials and excipients and the development of alternative bonding agents. ASCEM has the necessary knowledge to find solutions to the challenges of our modern age. Sustainability, lifespan and circularity are daily concerns for us. Our team of specialists works hard to tackle these issues with dedication and passion.

ASCEM has three main tasks:

• Supporting BTE's brands. For example, ASCEM is responsible for operational support with regard to concrete technology. ASCEM also offers advice in order to develop a top-quality end product. In addition to these core tasks, ASCEM supports and advises the BTE Group with regard to product and process innovation and themes such as sustainability and circularity.
• Searching for alternative raw materials for concrete. BTE is convinced that major investments in sustainability are needed - today and in the future. Due to its exceptionally long lifespan, concrete is a sustainable product in and of itself, yet there is still plenty of room for improvement. It is important to become even more sustainable (by reducing the environmental impact), produce less waste and utilise more streamlined processes.
• Developing alternative bonding agents to replace traditional cements. In the long run, our goal is to develop carbon-neutral concrete and circular products. That is quite a challenge. We are proud to say that we have already taken several major steps in the right direction with the development of ASCEM concrete®. 

ASCEM has an extensive network. For example, we have excellent contacts with universities and other research institutions.
